International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to fine Iranian weightlifting team with $500,000 for drug use by three of its members, the Mehr News Agency reported.
According to ILNA information, prohibited substances were found in the blood of two members of Iran's national weightlifting team in 2009-2010. At the moment, it has been proven that only Umid Naidjhin have used prohibited substances.
According to IWF regulations, if it is proved that an athlete has used drugs twice, the athlete will be fined or banned for life from participating in competitions.
If the probes of the three national team members turn positive the country will lose the right to participate in the championship, IWF said.
