President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said efforts made by the Western countries and US to impose sanctions against Iran were only attempts to save themselves from the dead end they are caught in, IRNA reported.

Making the remarks in the inauguration ceremony of the development project of a steel complex in this northwestern city, he said sanctions would never affect Iranians in any possible manner.

He said the Iranian nation would zealously defend its country whenever it saw its dignity, identity and values threatened in the world.

He said the Western world knew very well that Iranians' increased efforts would lead to a situation where hegemonic powers and oppressive governments would have no place in the world.

The President said the West and US were focusing on Iran's nuclear achievements as an excuse to cover up their impatience with the growing dominance of the Iranian culture and civilization in the world.

Ahmadinejad believed West's efforts to impose sanctions on Iran were quite insignificant moves which had no impacts on Iran, stressing that Iran was not merely thinking of making the sanctions a failure but of conquering the peaks of progress and advancement in all fields as well.
