Germany described Sunday the upcoming talks with Iran on nuclear issues as "positive" and said it would help Iran operate nuclear power plants if Teheran opened its nuclear programme to full inspection, dpa reported.
Germany is one of the governments attending Monday's meeting in Geneva between Iran and six powers.
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said, "The resumption of the talks is a positive step. It offers Iran the opportunity in talks with the international community to create at last the necessary transparency in its nuclear programme.
"Nuclear arming by Iran would have incalculable effects on regional and international stability which are not acceptable to us. At the same time, Iran has of course the right to use nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
"If Iran fulfils its international obligations on transparency, Germany is willing to cooperate with Iran on the civilian use of nuclear energy. I hope Iran uses the upcoming talks to take a step in the direction of transparency and cooperation."
