Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi has been officially inaugurated as the country's caretaker foreign minister, Press TV reported.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the place of the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Manouchehr Mottaki who served as the country's foreign minister from 2005 was absent from the ceremony which was attended by Iran's first Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi and other Foreign Ministry officials.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a decree on Monday, dismissing Mottaki from his post and appointing Salehi as the acting foreign minister.
Salehi, who is also currently a vice president, formerly served as Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
This is the first reshuffle in President Ahmadinejad's second term in office in 2009.
The Iranian chief executive replaced 12 of his cabinet ministers during his first tenure which began in 2005.
