Head of Iran's Presidential Office Esfandiyar Rahim-Mashaei says the recent subsidy reform plan has irked opportunists who oppose administration of justice, Press TV reported.
Those who manipulated uneven opportunities for years, opposed the measure and tried to hinder its implementation and frighten the nation through various means, but their efforts were doomed to fail, Mehr news agency quoted Mashaei as saying on Tuesday.
Mashaei said the subsidy removal was part of the government's efforts to administer justice across the country, but it aroused obstructive attempts by of those who tried to put obstacles in the way of the economic reform plan.
He went on to say that different aspects of the law were studied prior to devising the nationwide effort and contrary to the negative publicity by opponents of the government, the plan went into effect as intended.
The senior official highlighted the good cooperation of the Iranian nation with the plan, saying there is no room for negative campaign against it as opponents of the move would only expose their true nature in case they attempt to challenge the plan.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched the economic reform plan on December 19, in an effort to overhaul the country's economy through shelving energy and food subsidies.
According to President Ahmadinejad, all subsidies would be removed gradually during a five-year period and only low-income families would receive assistance in the form of electronic disbursement of funds in their bank accounts.
Supporters of the plan say it is in line with recommendations by global financial organizations based on the need for Iran to abandon its heavily subsidized economy in order to resolve persisting economic issues.
Yet, other analysts have criticized the plan, arguing that it could trigger a hike in prices and trigger a surge in inflation.
