Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani will visit the United Arab Emirates today and voice his official protest against the conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which is underway in Abu Dhabi, the Mehr news agency reported.

Iran will not participate in the conference as a sign of protest, Iranian Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission official Kazim Jalili said yesterday.

Jalili said the Abu Dhabi conference has no real political and legal force.

"The conference is held every two years and the congress is held once a year," he said. "But, given the fact that the council is headed by the UAE, the Congress of the Executive Committee is being held for a second time in succession, which is illegal."

Another conference will soon be held in Indonesia. However, the UAE convened this emergency session to amend the assembly's charter, he added.

"The adoption of any resolution, and our compliance with any decisions made at the conference, is unacceptable," Jalili said.

The congress started on Jan. 17 in Abu Dhabi.
