Defense Minister: Iran strategic policy, Afghanistan's security

Iran's strategic policy is promotion of sustainable development in Afghanistan and also strengthening of security in that country, Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said upon arrival in this capital city on Saturday, IRNA reported.

Vahidi noted the great Afghan nation is capable of well managing itself and the Islamic Republic is ready to expand cooperation with this brotherly state.

He further hoped his visit to Afghanistan will help promote all-out cooperation between Tehran and Kabul.

Iran's defense minister arrived in Kabul Saturday morning at the invitation of his Afghan counterpart Field Marshal Abdulrahim Vardak.

During his stay in that country, Iran's Vahidi is due to confer with top Afghan officials on issues related to defense cooperation between the two countries.

This is the first visit to Afghanistan of an Iranian defense minister following the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Vahidi is also the first Iranian defense minister visiting Afghanistan in the past 92 years.
