Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 27 /Trend T.Konyayeva, T.Jafarov/

Managing Director of Iran's Bank Melli Mahmoudrza Khavari has retired from his position, IRNA reported.

Khavari has sent today a resignation letter to Minister of Economy and Finance Shamseddin Hosseini to beg pardon from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iranian people for Bank Melli's involvement in the last corruption scandal.

Hosseini accepted his resignation and also dismissed a member of the Bank's Managing Board Farzad Ahmadi.

Last week, 19 suspects have been arrested over Bank Saderat's $2.8 bln corruption case. The suspects are also accused of converting a letter of credit issued by Bank Saderat's branch in Khuzestan province to cash in Bank Melli's office in Kish city.

Iranian Bank Melli's spokesman Hossein Dashdi rejected the media reports about Khavari's retirement, ILNA reported.

Bank Saderat is one of Iran's major banks. It contains 3,300 active branches and a share capital of $1.6 billion.
