The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is becoming more involved in running the country and that Iran may be heading toward military dictatorship, The Voice of America quoted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as saying on Wednesday.

In an interview with the popular Persian News Network program Parazit, Clinton noted that the IRGC, an elite wing of the military, is "becoming more and more involved" in the country's economy.

"The Quds force and other elements of the security establishment taking financial stakes or taking over certain economic enterprises - that's part of what I mean about our seeing that there seems to be a moving toward a more military takeover in effect in Iran," she said.

Her interview comes two weeks after the U.S. authorities said they had broken up plans by two men linked to Iranian Quds Force - a special unit of the IRGC - to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel al-Jubeir.

Iran denies the allegations saying the U.S. uses this tactic to slander again Iran. The IRGC also rejected any involvement of the Quds force in the plot alleged by the United States.
