Iran has forbidden foreign single-hull tankers with less than 600 tons of capacity entering its oil terminals in the Persian Gulf, Pana news agency reported.
The decision was taken to protect the environment and the Persian Gulf ecology, the report says.
Foreign single-hull tankers with 600-5,000 tons of capacity are allowed to enter Iran's oil terminals if they are approved by grading institutes and are in operation for less than 25 years.
All the Iranian single-hull tankers of more than 600 ton capacity will be also stopped in the Persian Gulf oil terminal as of 2015.
Iran has currently 49 oil tankers with more than 12 million tons of capacity and all of them are double-hulled.
