Iran-Afghanistan trade increases

Iran is a sound role model in every way for Afghanistan, ISNA reported the country's ambassador to Iran as saying.

Pointing to the 1,200 Km of border shared by the two countries, Abidollah Abid said trade had increased between Iran and Afghanistan in the past few years. He was visiting the Kermanshah Province in the northwest of Iran.

The Afghan Ambassador said his war torn country was in it reconstruction phase and needs help from its neighbors like Iran. He welcomed Iranian companies' investment in Afghanistan and said it should be increased.

Iran exported about $1.5 bln in goods to Afghanistan last year and the figure is the same for the first 9 months of this year (Iran's solar year ends in March), the president of Kermanshah's Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Mines said.

Bilateral trade between Iran and Afghanistan is around $1.5 bln according to a June 2011 report by Rand National Defense Research Institute and approximately 2,000 Iranian firms are working in Afghanistan.
