The value of Iran's annual non-oil exports to neighboring Iraq has increased to around $5 billion in the current year from just $790 million in 2005, the Iranian ambassador to Iraq said.

"Iran exported some $1 billion in electricity and oil products and the same amount in technical and engineering services to Iraq in the previous year," Hassan Danaeefar was quoted by IRNA news agency as saying.

Iranian companies plan to build two power plants in Iraq, he said. He added that the two sides have signed a deal, worth $400 million, to establish a gas pipeline from Iran to Iraq.

The value of non-oil exports, including gas condensates, stood at $31.9 billion in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year which ended on December 21, showing a 38 percent rise year per year, the Iranian Customs Administration director said.

The Iranian non-oil exports amounted to 56.164 million tons in weight, up to 10 percent compared to the same period the year before, Abbas Memarnejad told IRNA news agency.

China, the UAE, and Iraq were the main destinations for the Iranian goods.

Previously, Trade Promotion Organization chief Hamid Safdel said that the value of non-oil exports is expected to hit $43 billion this year and $50.5 billion next year.
