Shrimp exports to earn Iran $160 million

Iran will export $160 million shrimp in the current calendar year and plans to raise the value to $500 million by 2015, head of a fisheries organization Reza Razeqi stated.

Some 140,000 tons of fish and 6,000 tons of shrimp were hunted last year, he told the Mehr news agency.

He added that the per capita consumption of fish in Iran was 8.5 kilograms last year, which is less than the world's average.

He referred to Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE, China, South Korea, Lebanon and Spain as the primary destinations for Iranian shrimp.
