Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei signed a decree to pardon 761 political individuals, military personnel and civilians who are serving various prison terms. The release is in connection with the 33rd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, Iranian news agency FARS reported today.
Previously, the head of Iran's judiciary Sadiq Amoli Larijani had appealed to Ayatollah Khamenei to pardon the prisoners in connection with the momentous date.
The Decade of Fajr holiday is celebrated annually on 12-22 of the Bahman month in connection with the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. This year it is being celebrated from Feb. 1-11. Rallies will be held in all Iranian cities on February 11 to mark the victory of Islamic Revolution over the Shah's regime.
