The U.S. and the European Union have no evidence in hand to prove that the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) is involved in illegal activities, the IRISL managing director told Fars news agency on Monday.

In May 2011, the EU extended its sanctions adding more than 100 new sections to a list of companies and people affected, including those it said were owned or controlled by the IRISL, already targeted under previous measures.

Sanctions have caused several IRISL vessels to have been temporarily seized in foreign ports in recent months. Loss of business due to sanctions pushed Johnson Stevens Agencies Ltd, the UK's leading British ship line agent that used to represent IRISL, into administration.
