The Mobarakeh Steel Company's newly built sponge iron factory has a 3 million ton production capacity, Mehr quoted the company's managing director as saying.
There are only six other facilities in the world like the factory in Isfahan, said Mohammad Masoud Samiinejad, Mobarakeh's managing director.
The factory, which is slated to officially open in two months, costs about $245 million to build. Together, Mobarakeh Steel and Hormozgan Steel have a 7.7 million ton annual production capacity, said Samiinejad. By 2015, the complex's capacity will reach 12 million tons a year.
