A railway line connecting the north eastern Iranian town of Khaf with Herat in Afghanistan will be inaugurated this year.

Khaf is located in Iran's Khorasan Razavi Province and Herat sits near Afghanistan's north western border.

Work on the line's infrastructure is finished and the rail line is being laid, said Ahamd Sadeghi a deputy at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

The 191 kilometre line will help make transportation between the two neighbours faster and safer. Seventy-six miles of the line is in Iran while the remaining 115 kilometres is in Afghanistan.

Tehran and Kabul continue to expand their trade. Earlier today an Iranian official said Afghanistan and Iran's annual trade grew more than 50 per cent last year and totalled more than $2 billion (USD).
