A senior trade official of Tatarstan republic underlined his country's enthusiasm for the further consolidation of mutual cooperation with Iran, Fars reported.

Speaking at a meeting with Governor-General of Iran's Northwestern province of East Azarbaijan Alireza Beigi on Sunday, First Deputy Chief Executive of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency (TIDA) Robert Galiullin stated that Iran can be a "good trade partner" for the republic.

"Iran has acceptable capacities for petrochemical industries and agriculture and it can be a good trade partner for Tatarstan," he added.

He said Tatarstan provides Iranian investors with suitable opportunities for investment, and added that Tatarstan president guarantees the return of the capital of investors and entrepreneurs.

Galiullin called for setting up direct flight between Tatarstan capital, Kazan and Tehran.

During the meeting, the Iranian official said that Tabriz and Kazan became sister cities since two years ago which indicates their similarities and interactions.

In December 2011, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov underlined Kazan's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Iranian provinces in all fields, specially East Azerbaijan province.

"East Azerbaijan and Tatarstan enjoy common language, culture and history and this can be highly effective in the development of relations," Minnikhanov said in a meeting with East Azerbaijan's governor-general at the time.

"Mutual cooperation should serve the interests of both sides and we welcome the expansion of cooperation in all fields," he added.

Minnikhanov reiterated that Kazan is also eager to provide the grounds for the sales of the goods produced in Iran's East Azerbaijan in Tatarstan.
