Iran's daily gas production capacity and its pipeline contracts with neighbors show the country's independence and power, a top gas company official said.

Deputy Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Mostafa Kashkooli, pointed to Iran's producing of 600 million cubic meters of gas a day, a number that will increase to 1.2 billion cubic meters by the end of the country's Fifth Five Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2011-2015) and its gas pipeline projects with Syria and Pakistan as proof of the country's strength, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reports.

Pakistani pipeline is being built from the Sistan and Baluchistan Province's town of Iranshahr toward the Iranian border with Pakistan. Iran had to send 21 million cubic meters of gas a day to Pakistan in accordance with the signed pipeline contract. Pakistan asked Iran to increase it gas exports to 30 million cubic meters a day.
