Iran's MAPNA Company has announced readiness to launch a power plant with the capacity of 1,000 megawatts in Pakistan.

The MAPNA four-member delegation, headed by Abbas Ali- Abadi, had a meeting with Pakistani Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar in Islamabad on Monday, the IRNA News Agency reported.

The Iranian delegation expressed preparedness for setting up power plants of 1,000MW capacity on urgent basis. The delegation further expressed keenness to supply and install 25MW small power plants on ground as well as on barges to help Pakistan in overcoming the current power crisis.

Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said on June 1 that based on the two countries' agreement, a new 230-kilovolt power transfer line will be established between Iran and Pakistan.

He said the new transmission line would be built between Iran's south-eastern port city of Chabahar and Pakistan's Guarder port.

The official added that Iran doubled its power export to Pakistan from 35 MW per day to 70 MW in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2012) after the installation of new facilities.

It is expected that Iran's electricity export to Pakistan will reach more than 200 MW by next year, Behzad added.

He emphasized that a new power transmission line between Iran's south-eastern city of Zahedan and Pakistan's Quetta would be established to increase electricity exports to 1,000 MW.

Iran is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Nakhichevan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
