Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that the country's enemies have experienced an ignominious defeat in their diplomatic war with Iran, MNA reported.
The Leader made the remarks during a meeting with a number of members of the Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday in reference to the XVI Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was held in the Iranian capital from August 26 to 31.
The NAM summit demonstrated the "might, glory, and dignity of the Islamic system," Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding, "The enemies of the Iranian nation, through their stupidity, turned the summit into a diplomatic war with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the result of which was a humiliating defeat for them."
He stated, "The summit of the heads of state (and government) of the Non-Aligned (Movement) in Tehran could have been held in the ordinary way like all other international summits, but the political situation in the world, and the timing and the venue of the summit, and also the stupidity that the ill-wishers of the Iranian nation demonstrated, caused the summit to become an influential event and to receive publicity around the world and to become a diplomatic war with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei also said, "The views that were expressed by certain heads of state and delegations participating in the summit, particularly (their) criticism of the structure of the United Nations and the Security Council and the international dictatorship ruling the world, were unprecedented (in comparison to) similar international summits."
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader stated that the NAM summit stymied the efforts to create a brouhaha about the sanctions imposed on Iran, noting, "The heads of state and delegations participating in the summit of the heads of state (and government) of the Non-Aligned (Movement) saw the people's everyday lives and their vitality in the capital and other cities firsthand, and held talks with the country's officials about various agreements on the sidelines of the summit."
