Commander of Iran's Khatam Al-Anbiya base Farzad Esmaili said Iran's air defense system is powerful enough to spot enemy spy planes, and send them appropriate warnings, if necessary, Fars reported.

Esmaili noted that Iran's air defense mechanisms have previously sent warnings to the U.S. manned AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircrafts flying in the Persian Gulf zone and on the Iraq-Iran border.

"During the "Velayat" air maneuvers in 2010, several U.S. spy planes were detected 12 miles inside Iran's airspace, and were given appropriate warnings from Jask, Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports' defensive checkpoints," Esmaili said.

"After receiving warning messages, the U.S. aircrafts immediately left Iran's airspace."

The commander noted that Iran has been sending the similar warnings to the U.S. planes for 10 years already, adding that Iran has also used its GPS jamming devices to put the U.S. GPS systems out of order.
