Iranian military has driven away an unidentified aircraft violating the country's airspace, Press TV reported with the reference to Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi.

"Last week an unidentified plane entered the airspace above the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Persian Gulf which, due to the timely, quick and decisive action of the Iranian Armed Forces, was forced to flee," Vahidi said.

According to Vahidi, Iran vigilantly and precisely monitors all movements and takes decisive, necessary and timely actions, adding that the country is investigating the incident and pursuing the case via relevant international channels.

Earlier deputy chairman of Iranian Armed Forces' Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said that Iran will give a 'firm response' to any air, ground and sea aggression, vowing to confront any foreign aircraft violating the country's airspace.

Jazayeri's statement came after the Commander of Khatam Al-Anbiya base Farzad Esmaili yesterday said that Iran will soon be holding massive Air defense drills "Velayat-4", with joint participation of Iranian army, IRGC and Basij civilian forces.

Esmaili noted that the drills will be conducted simultaneously in 8 provinces of Iran - North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Sistan & Baluchestan, Kerman, Hormozgan, Yazd and Fars.
