Ambassador: Iran, Russia to cooperate despite West’s sanctions

Iran and Russia will cooperate despite the unilateral anti-Iranian sanctions of some Western countries, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mahmoud Reza Sajjadi said at a news conference at RIA Novosti today.

"Russia has no sharp restrictions for economic cooperation with Iran," he said. "It is legal."
He also recalled that Russia joined only to the international sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council.

"They concern nuclear and military spheres of cooperation and do not relate to the Bushehr nuclear power plant construction which works normally," Sajjadi said.

"Moscow and Tehran cooperate in different areas of the economy, including energy, transport, agriculture," the diplomat said. He stressed that the Iranian Foreign Minister's upcoming visit to Moscow will be held within the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission.

"The aim of the meeting is to examine fulfilling the decisions of the previous intergovernmental commission held in Tehran last year," he said. "There are new areas for cooperation between the two countries."
