Iran has strongly condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria's northwestern city of Aleppo which led to the death of at least 25 people, Press TV reported.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Wednesday that Tehran "strongly condemns the inhuman action of using chemical weapons in the city of Aleppo".
Mehmanparast also criticized the countries supporting the militants in Syria, saying that those states will be responsible for any repeat of "such atrocities."
At least 25 people were killed and 86 others injured in Aleppo's Khan al-Assal village. Women and children are reported to be among the victims.
The attack came after Syria's foreign-backed opposition coalition, known as the Syrian National Coalition, chose a Syrian-born American citizen, Ghassan Hitto, as the prime minister of what it called an interim government.
In his first speech after being chosen by Syria's opposition coalition, Hitto said in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Tuesday that there would be no dialog between the opposition and the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
Syria has blamed countries supporting the militants for the attack, saying not only do such states militarize them, but also plan and take decisions on their behalf.
Mehmanparast further expressed sympathy with families of the victims of the attack and called on all international and human rights organizations to fulfill their duty by condemning the heinous crime.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Syrian army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
Several international human rights organizations have accused foreign-sponsored militants of committing war crimes in Syria.
