Head of Iran's Atomic Agency, Fereidoon Abbasi-Davani said today that Iran will continue enriching the 20-percent uranium for as long as it needs fuel, Mehr reported.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony commemorating the National Day of Nuclear Technology, Abbasi noted that Iran enriches the 20-percent uranium for Tehran's research reactor activities.

He also said that Iran plans to establish 5 more similar research reactors in the country.

When asked about the proposal of the P5+1 group to convert Iran's 20-percent enriched uranium to under-five percent enriched uranium, Abbasi said Iran is not increasing the percentage amount of the uranium, however it will continue the work in this direction for as long as it needs fuel.

"We will not be taking the nuclear material out of Iran, and we will not agree to convert 20-percent uranium," Abbasi noted. "Other P5+1 countries should come up with more reasonable suggestions and proposals."

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.

The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.
