Iran, India set to expand energy relations

Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi says the Islamic Republic and India are set to boost bilateral relations in the field of energy and other economic sectors, Press TV reported.

On Sunday, the Iranian minister arrived in New Delhi at the invitation of his Indian counterpart, M. Veerappa Moily, for three days of talks with high-ranking Indian officials over the expansion of bilateral ties in different sectors, including energy.

Upon his arrival in India, Qasemi said Tehran and New Delhi are willing to expand their cooperation in the energy sector.

"India is a large country and has very good capabilities in different fields to provide Iran with its needs in agriculture and industrial commodities..." Qasemi said.

He added that the Islamic Republic, with its strong energy capacity, is also a major energy supplier to India.

According to Iranian oil minister, the two sides will also discuss bilateral investments, including India's willingness to invest in Iran's southern Chabahar Port.

Iran's Chabahar Port, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, lies 72 kilometers West of Pakistan's Gwadar Port, and is connected to the city of Zaranj in Afghanistan's southwestern province of Nimruz.
