Saeed Jalili: General public should participate in Iran’s current affairs

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 31/ Trend F.Eminli

The next administration should pave the way for greater participation of the general public in current affairs of the country, presidential candidate, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili said.

He made the remarks during his visit to Iran's city of Arak, the ISNA News Agency reported.

The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council went on to note that the next chief executive is duty-bound to help realize the full potential of both the government and the people.

The principlist candidate said that resource-rich Iran is destined to go nowhere while under the shadow of wrong policies.

Jalili blamed the mismanagement of liquidity and production for the rising price of goods and services in recent months.

He said that the country has what it takes to develop a robust economy if it adopts proper management practices, just as it succeeded in developing a civilian nuclear energy program.

Iran will hold the 11th presidential elections on June 14, 2013. The voters will choose the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in the national elections and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
