Tehran Jewish Committee criticizes Ahmadinejad over Holocaust denial comments

Head of Tehran Jewish Committee Haroun Yeshayaei has reacted to the recent remarks of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding holocaust.

Ahmadinejad recently said that his comments about the holocaust destroyed the backbone of capitalism.

In an article published in the Shargh newspaper on Wednesday, Yeshayaei said that Iranian president's remarks were self-productive and far from political wisdom.

On January 26, 2007, Yashayaei's letter to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad concerning his Holocaust denial comments had caused worldwide attention of media outlets.

The Tehran Jewish Committee, formally was registered in 1934, is an umbrella group of Jewish organizations that works on behalf of the Persian Jews in Iran. Some 30,000 Jews currently live in Iran, which is considered as the highest number of Jews living in a Middle Eastern country besides Israel.

The community has a representative in Iran's parliament (Majlis).
