67,000 tons of gold ore extracted from Iran’s Khomein mine

Some 67,000 tons of gold ore were extracted from Khomein gold mine, central Iran, in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, Iran's IRNA news agency quoted head of Khomein industry and trade department, Mohsen Basardeh, as saying on April 7.

Some 10,000 meters of excavation was carried out in gold mine of Khomein last year, he said, adding that 115 persons are working at the mine.

In May 2013, IRNA quoted deputy head of the Geological Survey of Iran, Behrouz Borna as saying that Iran's gold reserves are estimated to be over 340 tons.

Fifteen gold mines are being operated across the country, and two more will be added in the current year, Borna said, adding that Iran ranks 12th in Asia and 42nd in the world in terms of gold reserves.

The country's gold production capacity is projected to hit 10 tons in the current Iranian calendar year, which ends on March 20, 2014, he noted.
