Rouhani: Iranˈs strategic outlook helping to stability in Iraq
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to new Iraqi President Fouad Massoum congratulated him on his election to the top post, IRNA reported.
ˈIranˈs strategic outlook is helping to stability, progress and welfare of the noble people of Iraq,ˈ President Rouhani said in his message to Massoum on Thursday night, and added, ˈI congratulate the confidence of the Iraqi lawmakers in the parliament and electing you as president.ˈ
The Iranian president underlined that the concurrent attention of the Iraqi people and officials to the issue of confronting terrorism and continuation of the trend of political development and consolidation of democracy in that country under the present important situation is a valuable and praiseworthy approach.
Iraqˈs parliament on Thursday elected veteran Kurdish politician Fouad Massoum as federal president, a move that paves the way for the much-delayed formation of a new government.
Parliament Speaker Salim al-Juburi announced that Massoum, who was born in 1938 and became the first prime minister of autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan more than two decades ago, had won the most votes, AFP reported.
