IRGC to take over 60% of Iran’s military budget for next year

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani proposed the country's $340 billion budget for the Iranian fiscal year starting March 20, 2018 to parliament on Dec. 10.

In the budget bill, the military expenditure was set at 438.2 trillion rials (about $12.5 billion), meanwhile the figure for current year(started March 2017) is 443 trillion rials.

The figures indicates that the Iranian administration has decreased defense expenditure by some 1 percent or some 4 trillion rials compared with the current fiscal year.

The Iranian administration has allocated over 61 percent of the military budget for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), meanwhile army forces will only take 22 percent of the budget.

Rouhani’s government has increased the IRGC budget by 3 percent, meanwhile the allocated budget for Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has been decreased by 43 percent.

The Iranian administration also has allocated 44.9 trillion rials of budget for defense ministry, of that about 19.7 trillion rials is planed to be spent for upgrading and boosting the country’s defensive capabilities.
