Iran unveils volume of cargo transported by trucks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 24. The transit through Iran by freight transport in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) amounted to about 14.8 million tons, Director General of the International Transit and Transport Department of Iran's Road and Transport Organization Javad Hedayati said, Trend reports.

According to him, until last year, the largest number of trucks passed through Iran in 2014. That year, 12.3 million tons of products were transported through Iran. Meanwhile, last year saw a 2 million increase in truck transit across the country.

Hedayati stated that 9.4 million tons of non-oil products were transported through the country by trucks last year. This represents a 38 percent increase from the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).

The official noted that last year, 5.03 million tons of petroleum products were transported through the country by truck. This is 112 percent more than a year earlier.

Additionally, 17.8 million tons of products were transported through Iran last year. Transit increased by 36.5 percent compared to the previous year.

To note, 2,793 km of highways, 45170 km of freeways, and trunk roads are currently in operation in Iran.
