BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. A total of 1,000 km of pipelines will be built in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) to transport oil products from refineries to different provinces for consumption in Iran, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters on May 15 after the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Tehran, Trend reports.
He claims that next week, in the provinces of East and West Azerbaijan in Iran, the 222-kilometer-long Tabriz-Khoy-Urmia oil product pipeline will be operational. Once this pipeline is operational, oil tankers will no longer be required to deliver oil products via road. It is estimated that the Tabriz-Khoy Urmia pipeline has cost over 10 trillion rials, or around $238 million.
The minister said 16–17 thousand trucks deliver oil products daily in Iran. Pipelines ensure environmental protection, economic savings, and road safety.
Additionally, it should be noted that Iran's oil pipeline and telecommunications company transports crude oil and petroleum products to the country's refineries and consumption points through pipelines over 14,000 kilometers long.
To note, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), 137 billion liters of crude oil and petroleum products were transported to 31 provinces of Iran. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products transported in the provinces increased by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year (March 21, 2022 through March 2023).
