BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. Iran intends to export products to China by rail, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Director of Iranian Railway Company Miad Salehi said, Trend reports.
He made the announcement during the meeting of the heads of railroads of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization held in Tehran.
According to him, a positive agreement has recently been reached between the railroads of China, Kazakhstan, and Iran to reduce fees for the movement of container trains from China to Iran. Based on this agreement, the export of Iranian products to China by rail as part of bilateral freight transportation is at the center of Iran's attention.
Salehi noted that the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization have a population of more than 500 million people and an area of 8 million square kilometers. This has made this organization one of the economic poles of the world.
Salehi emphasized that facilitation of border crossing operations, and strengthening the work of border terminals and logistics centers is considered one of the main railway programs to increase international transit and transport potential. Moreover, the restoration of the traditional Silk Road by rail is also on Iran's agenda.
Salehi added that, as an active member of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Iran is near various corridors. The North-South international corridor, Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul, Almaty-Bandar Abbas, Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul, Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran, and Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Iran-Türkiye are examples.
To note, the meeting of the heads of railroads of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Tehran on May 19–20.
