BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The volume of crops grown in greenhouses increased by 1.2 million tons from the beginning of the current government of Iran (the current government of Iran has been in power since August 2021) to the end of last year (March 19, 2024), Iranian Agriculture Minister Mohammad Ali Nikbakht said, Trend reports.
According to him, 3.1 million tons of crops were grown in the country's greenhouses when the current government started its activities. This number increased to about 4.32 million tons at the end of last year.
The Iranian minister noted that the area of greenhouses in Iran increased from 20,699 ha to 23,238 ha during the mentioned period.
Nikbakht noted that the development of greenhouses creates conditions for exporting quality products while also saving water resources.
Additionally, it should be noted that Iran grows more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year on average.
Furthermore, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Iran's exports of food and agricultural products amounted to 8.8 million tons worth about $6.3 billion. Compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Iran's exports of food and agricultural products increased by 20.4 percent in value and 12.2 percent in weight.
