Iran reveals total expenditure on its petrochemical facilities

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11. A total of $3.5 billion has been spent on the commissioning of petrochemical plants and facilities in Iran over the past 3 years, the statement of Iran's Oil Ministry said, Trend reports.

The nation has already put 17 petrochemical plants and facilities into operation, while building on another 14 has begun, all using the aforementioned sum.

To note, until August 2021, the country boasted a staggering number of 50 petrochemical plants and facilities in operation. This number has now increased to 127. Of these facilities and plants, 22 are located in Iran's Mahshahr region, 24 in the Asalouyeh region, 13 in the Kangan, Dayyer, and Siraf regions, 11 in the Pars energy zone, 4 in the Makran region, and 53 in other regions.

Following last year's results, Iran's petrochemical production potential was 95 million tons. Iran announces that in the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Iran's petrochemical production potential will increase by 5 million tons to 100 million tons.

Iran exported 8.26 million tons of petrochemical products worth $3.5 billion during 2 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024). The value and weight of Iran's petrochemical exports rose 8 percent and 4.55 percent, respectively, as compared to the corresponding time in the previous year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023).
