Iran's exports of iron ore pellets and concentrate take nosedive

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. The export of iron ore pellets and concentrate from Iran decreased by 28 percent in value terms and by 6.9 percent in weight in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same month of the previous Iranian year, the statistics of Iran's Polas Association said, Trend reports.

According to the numbers, Iran hit the ground running in the first month with exports of iron ore pellets and concentrates, raking in a whopping 1.35 million tons valued at a cool $113 million.

Iran's exports of iron ore pellets and concentrates from the country amounted to about 1.45 million tons worth $159 million during the first month of the last Iranian year.

Furthermore, Iran's exports of iron ore pellets during the first month amounted to 870,000 tons worth $77 million. Compared to the same month last year, it decreased by 38.7 percent in value and 20.9 percent in weight terms.

Based on information, during the same month last year, Iran's iron ore pellet exports amounted to 1.1 million tons worth $126 million.

The information notes that Iran's iron ore concentrate exports for the first month amounted to 478,000 tons worth $36 million. This is a 12 percent jump in value and a 37.9 percent surge in weight compared to the same month last year.

However, in the same month of last year, Iran exported 347,000 tons of iron ore concentrate worth $33 million.

Additionally, it should be noted that Iran produces an average of 50 million tons of iron ore pellets annually.

Besides, Iran can produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year.

To note, Iran's exports of iron ore pellets and concentrate from the country in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) amounted to about 17.2 million tons worth $1.7 billion.

Exports of iron ore pellets and concentrate from Iran increased by 125 percent in value and 160 percent in weight terms in the last Iranian year compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
