Production potential of Iran's wind power plants to grow - official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. The potential of electricity production by Iran's wind power plants will increase 5.5 times in the next 2 years, said Mahmoud Kamani, deputy energy minister and chairman of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran, Trend reports.

According to him, they're planning to crank up the electricity generation by wind power plants in the country by a whopping 3,000 megawatts during the mentioned period.

Kamani made note of the fact that the nation intends to raise the output capacity of its renewable energy power plants to 30,000 megawatts throughout the time frame described.

The country's renewable energy power plants have a production potential of 1,195 megawatts, according to the deputy minister. Power plants that generate wind energy account for 366 MWh.

To note, a 50-megawatt wind power plant, known as the Mil Nader plant, commenced operations on June 6 in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran.

Iran's electricity generation potential currently stands at 93,024 megawatts.
