Iran announces wheat volumes to be harvested in WesT Azerbaijan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. More than 1 million tons of wheat are predicted to be harvested in the West Azerbaijan Province, located in the northwest of Iran, during the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), the Director General of the Agriculture Department of Iran's West Azerbaijan Province Khosrov Shahbazi said, Trend reports.

According to him, a total of 408,000 ha of land in West Azerbaijan Province have been sown with wheat this year.

Shahbazi stated that 683,000 tons of wheat were purchased under guarantee from farmers in West Azerbaijan Province last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). It is expected that 750,000 tons of wheat will be guaranteed to be purchased in the province this year.

The official noted that 72 wheat procurement centers have been established in the region.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
