BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. Iran proposes to collect and evaluate economic data of BRICS member countries, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at the summit of BRICS member countries in Russia's Kazan on October 23, Trend reports.
According to him, increasing investment and trade among member countries is of great importance. The success or failure of decisions taken regarding increasing investment and trade volume can be evaluated annually and kept at the center of attention.
Pezeshkian stated that each BRICS member country can consider the development of other members as its own development and values cooperation and healthy competition as the main axis between member countries.
"Iran, being away from politics and geopolitical tensions, will make efforts to reform the global economic structure of BRICS and create alternative opportunities for economic development," he noted.
BRICS, an intergovernmental organization, came into existence in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. Currently, in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the members of the organization are Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
Currently, the 16th BRICS Summit is taking place in Kazan on October 22–24 under the Russian Chairmanship-themed Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.
