2 TURKISH COMPANIES TO CONSTRUCT TBILISI AIRPORT

(Kavkaz-Press) вЂ" The Turkish Chelebi Company did not manage to present banking guarantees and was refused from the construction of the Tbilisi International Airport. Georgia waited for banking guarantee till Friday, but did not receive it, Irakliy Chogovadze, the Georgian Economic Minister, told Trend.

The Chelebi established corporation with the American A&J Investment Company and Luxemburg GTS Construction Company in relation with putting $65 million in the construction of the modern international airport in Tbilisi.

In accordance with the contract, the airport was due to be put into exploitation on 26 May 2006, but the Turkish company undertook construction of the airport due to a scandal between the companies and did not manage to present a financial guarantee.

“We gave time to the Chalabi Company to present guarantees that they will complete the construction, but they did not manage in the agreed term i.e on 2 September,” he underlined.

The Minister noted that negotiations with two Turkish companies Tavi and Urban are underway. “They have presented a $6.5m guarantee and arrive to conclude an agreement on Monday, ” he added. Meanwhile, the companies also intend to construct airport in Batumi.

Chogovadze participated at the presentation of 5-seat jet assembled at the Tbilaviamsheni JSC on Saturday.
