Russian, Japanese coastguards conducting joint exercises

(Interfax) - The Russian and Japanese coastguards are currently conducting anti-terrorist cooperation exercises in the Far East.

The exercises are simulating the search and detention of a vessel seized by terrorists, the rescue of the seized vessel's crew, and the rendering of assistance to a ship in distress, Russian Federal Security Service First Deputy Director and Border Service head Vladimir Pronichev said on Wednesday, reports Trend.

Pronichev and Japanese Maritime Safety Agency head Admiral Hiroki Ishikawa are observing the exercises in the Peter the Great Strait, along with representatives from China, South Korea and the United States.
