(IRNA) - Second round of talks between Iranian and Afghan defense ministers was held here on Sunday.
Iranian minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and his Afghan counterpart Major General Abdul Rahim Wardak took part in a press conference after their talks to expound on the main subjects of their deliberations, reports Trend.
The Iranian minister said at the press that during their two-day meeting they had fruitful discussions on anti-terrorism and anti-drug measures, adding that a statement is to be released on the issues discussed and ways of expanding bilateral ties.
Mohammad-Najjar said that Iranians are true friends of the Afghan people and are ready to do whatsoever takes to boost two-way ties.
He added that the presence of more sovereign and powerful countries in the region would further guarantee regional security and pave the way for regional cooperation.
The Afghan minister in the briefing thanked Iran for its assistance during the various events in his country including the Soviet invasion, Taliban-rule and the prevalent terrorism.
He also appreciated Iran's efforts to reconstruct his devastated country. General Wardak referred to good relations with Iran as among the highest priorities of the Kabul government.
Admitting that Afghan forces on the border are not able to foil the activities of drug dealers, he said Afghanistan would try to upgrade security on its frontiers in the future with the help of the international community and friendly countries like Iran.
He noted that during last year some 160 drug laboratories were demolished and some 800 drug dealers were arrested along with 800 tons of drugs.
He also praised the progress made in Iranian defence industries.
