(President.lt) - President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus is currently on a working visit to the Republic of Turkey.
Thursday morning, the Lithuanian President attended a meeting with business people and had a discussion on Common Energy Diverging Interests: Building a Joint Vision.
At the meeting, President Adamkus underlined that the European leaders understood the need for common energy policy. This was clearly expressed at the informal meeting of the EU Heads of State or Government in Finland, reports Trend.
„Energy demand is increasing in Europe and it has to seek new energy resources, said Mr. Adamkus.
President believes that currently drafted important gas pipeline project Baku Tbilisi Erzurum from South Caucasus and Central Asia to Europe will create one more alternative for gas supply to Europe. According to Mr. Adamkus, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan could have a significant role here.
The Lithuanian President expressed hope that Turkey could help to solve Georgia's problems related to the increase in natural gas import prices.
