President Ahmadinejad arrives in Gambia

(IRNA) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Banjul, capital of the West African state of Gambia, Saturday morning for an official visit on his way to Venezuela for the first of a regional tour of three South American states.

Ahmadinejad was given an official welcome by his Gambian counterpart, President Yahya Jammeh, reports Trend.

In the welcoming ceremony, the national anthems of the two countries were played and the two presidents reviewed a guard of honor.

The Iranian president is to meet with Jammeh after the ceremony and then leave Banjul for Caracas, Venezuela.

After Venezuela, Ahmadinejad will also visit Nicaragua and Ecuador.

The president, before his departure, was received by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei who wished him success in his tour.
