Iran, Russia discuss mutual ties, regional, international issues

( IRNA ) - Iran and Russia discussed various bilateral issues and major regional and international developments.

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov met with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Affairs Mehdi Safari.

Losyukov said economic issues play a role in further consolidating ties between Tehran and Moscow and urged speedy implementation of joint projects.

He pointed to Iran's significant position in Russia's foreign policy and said his country attaches special importance to ties with Iran.

He said Russia is determined to complete and commission Bushehr power plant in southern Iran, adding Moscow would make more efforts to remove obstacles in the way of implementing the project at the earliest.

Safari, for his part said, Russia's practical measures including implementation of agreements and commissioning of Bushehr power plant would play a leading role in promoting Tehran-Moscow cooperation.

The two sides said Iran and Russia share a common stance on several issues and stressed the importance of holding more meetings between the two countries' officials.
