Iran's Astara Port can attract medical tourists from the Caspian Sea region, the port's manager Rasoul Bahrami said.

He said many people are currently traveling from Azerbaijan to the Iranian cities of Tabriz, Ardebil, and Rasht for medical purposes, Iran's IRIB reported on September 15.

If the Astara-Baku shipping line is launched, many people will travel to Iran via the sea route instead of the land routes, he added.

Astara is a port city in Iran's northern Gilan Province. It lies on the border with Azerbaijan Republic and on the Caspian Sea. It is a relatively important border trade center between Iran and the Caucasus.

Medical tourism or health tourism is the travel of people to another country for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment in that country.
