Tehran Stock Exchange main index falls 749 points

Tehran Stock Exchange's main index (TEPIX) decreased 749 points on Dec. 15, standing at 69,542 points.

The capital market value also surpassed 3,140 trillion rials (about $93 billion based on the exchange rate of USD at the free market), Iran 's IRNA news agency reported Dec. 15.

More than 664 million shares, valued at $45.5 million were traded the same day.

Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia has ordered insurance companies and major banks to support the country's capital market.

Founded in 1967, the Tehran Stock Exchange has been one of the world's best performing stock markets in recent years and has ranked as the best bourse index in Europe, Africa and Middle East in 2010 in terms of performance of the main index.
