Iran's private sector produces 1.6 million tons of crude steel

Iran's private sector has produced about 1.615 million metric tons of steel ingots during the first ten months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21, 2014-Jan. 20).

Over 4.353 million metric tons of steel products also were produced by Iran's private sector during the 10-month period, the Islamic Republic's official IRNA news agency reported Feb. 23.

The tenth calendar month's output accounted for 170,000 metric tons of the mentioned figure.

The Islamic Republic's private companies produced about 2.652 million metric tons of steel bars as well as 921,800 metric tons of steel sheets and 321,400 metric tons of iron beams respectively during the first ten months of current fiscal year.

Over 14 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran in total by state-run companies during the period, 7.3 percent more year on year.

Iranian state-run companies also produced 14.344 million metric tons of steel products during the 10-month period, indicating a 3 percent growth compared to the same months of last year.

Iran produced 15.6 million metric tons of crude steel during the last fiscal year (ended on March 21), 8.8 percent more in comparison with preceding year.

Islamic Republic's steel products output also stood at 16.5 million metric tons in last fiscal year, indicating a 5 percent decrease year on year.

The country produced 16.331 million metric tons of crude steel in 2014.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.
